Kathmandu – Rapper Balen’s latest song, Nepal Haseko, is making waves globally. Within just 24 hours of its release, the song has trended on YouTube in six countries, including Nepal.
Released on Monday evening, the song hit Nepal’s YouTube trending list within an hour and a half of streaming. By Tuesday noon, it had claimed the top spot in Nepal’s music category. At the time of writing, the song had already garnered nearly 870,000 views.
While Nepal Haseko holds the No. 1 position on YouTube in Nepal, it has also secured notable rankings in other countries with large Nepali communities: No. 15 in Australia, No. 8 in the UAE, No. 2 in Qatar and Malta, and No. 9 in Kuwait. This suggests strong support from Nepali audiences abroad.
The song, which portrays the struggles of Nepalis working abroad, will also be used to promote the upcoming film Laaj Sharanam. This marks Balen’s first song release since becoming the Mayor of Kathmandu. However, the song’s audio was originally released a decade ago.
For listeners who first heard the track ten years ago, this new video version is sure to bring renewed excitement. The video features actors from Laaj Sharanam, further tying the song to the film’s promotion.
