Nirvana Reunites with Post Malone for a Powerful SNL50 Performance

Feb 16, 2025

Nirvana’s legacy lived on at SNL50: The Homecoming Concert as the surviving members—Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear—came together for a special performance at Radio City Music Hall. Filling in for the late Kurt Cobain, singer-rapper Post Malone delivered an electrifying rendition of Smells Like Teen Spirit, playing guitar and channeling the raw energy of the iconic grunge band.

The performance was introduced by actor Adam Sandler, who reflected on Nirvana’s groundbreaking Saturday Night Live debut in 1991. Calling them “a band that changed everything,” Sandler honored Cobain’s legacy before welcoming the group to the stage under the name “Post Nirvana.”

Post Malone, a longtime Nirvana fan, has frequently paid tribute to the band throughout his career. His deep appreciation for their music was evident in his past covers of tracks like Lithium and All Apologies, as well as a 2020 livestream where he performed 15 Nirvana songs to raise funds for COVID-19 relief.

This isn’t the first time Nirvana’s surviving members have reunited. Novoselic, Grohl, and Smear have previously performed alongside artists like Paul McCartney, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Joan Jett at special events, keeping the band’s music alive for new generations.
