L2: Empuraan Box Office Surge: ₹50 Crore on the Horizon as Sikandar Takes Aim

Mar 30, 2025

L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, is on an unstoppable path to box office glory. With a stellar ₹13.50 crore on its third day, the film is closing in on the ₹50 crore milestone in India. Its opening day earnings of ₹21 crore were a record-breaker, marking the biggest debut for a Malayalam film in Indian history.

The movie’s momentum isn’t just confined to India. Globally, L2: Empuraan became the fastest Malayalam film to enter the ₹100 crore club, with impressive box office numbers from regions like the UK, US, Canada, and Australia. Its success is unparalleled, but with Salman Khan’s highly anticipated Sikandar hitting theaters on the eve of Eid, the competition is heating up.

Salman Khan’s Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss, is expected to make a massive impact, especially in the Hindi market. Known for dominating the Eid season, Salman’s star power, combined with the action-packed narrative and the film’s holiday release, means that L2: Empuraan will now have to contend with a fresh wave of excitement in cinemas.

Adding to the drama, L2: Empuraan’s co-producer, Gokulam Gopalan, has asked Prithviraj to make 17 voluntary cuts to address concerns over controversial elements related to the 2002 Gujarat riots and the portrayal of central investigative agencies. Some changes have already been made, with a new edited version of the film set to release next week.

As the box office battle heats up, L2: Empuraan will need to maintain its momentum and ward off the competition from Sikandar. The coming weeks will reveal if Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan can continue its record-breaking run or if Salman Khan’s Sikandar will dominate the screens this festive season.
