Kathmandu. Actor Tank Dhamaala, based in the United Kingdom, is currently making headlines. His English-language film Kama is being screened in cinemas across the UK and Ireland starting this Friday.
Dhamaala, who has previously appeared in feature films like Dangerous Game, the Indian film Animal, and the Nepali movie Sarauto, is now starring in this latest action feature. In Kama, he takes on a leading role.
The film, which explores the extremes to which a person might go for betrayal and revenge, sees Dhamaala sharing the screen with Hollywood actors Matt Wakeford, Jemima Toms, Mia Bennett, and South Indian actress Pooja Gupta.
In the film, Dhamaala plays the role of a soldier who, upon returning home from war, learns of his wife’s death. The ensuing events of the story provide ample thrills for the audience, as Dhamaala describes the film as a captivating thriller.
“I prepared for this film by getting physically fit for the army role and also focusing on the technical aspects. I trained to adopt the mindset, physical demeanor, and mentality of a soldier to make my character authentic,” he shared.
He received training from British acting coach Simon Gibbon. Dhamaala won the Best Actor award at the Milan International Film Festival for his role in Kama and has received critical acclaim for his performance. The film has also garnered positive responses in cinemas in the UK and Ireland.
“Through my studies in film, I have continued my acting journey. Working in both Nepali and Indian-British films has allowed me to understand their work styles from a close perspective. This experience will help me in my future acting career,” said Dhamaala.
While he hasn’t received offers from Nepali films since Sarauto, the preparation for Kama kept him from returning to Nepali cinema. However, he is now ready to make a comeback in Nepali films as well.
“If I find a suitable role in Nepali films, I am ready to showcase myself. I am more interested in quality films than in quantity,” he mentioned.
Affiliated with the British modeling and acting agency Longford Associates, Dhamaala is currently preparing for several new projects.
