AR Rahman Takes a Subtle Jab at Ranveer Allahbadia: “What Happens When the Mouth Opens”
The controversy surrounding YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s inappropriate comment continues to make waves. After reactions from figures like Imtiaz Ali and Manoj Bajpayee, AR Rahman subtly joined the conversation. At the music launch of Chhaava in Mumbai, Vicky Kaushal jokingly asked Rahman to describe his music using three emojis. In response, Rahman mimed closing his mouth and quipped, “This past week we have all seen what happens when the mouth opens,” causing the crowd to laugh.
Ranveer Allahbadia’s comment, made on India’s Got Latent hosted by Samay Raina, became the center of the controversy. He asked a contestant a disturbing question about watching or participating in sexual acts with their parents, which sparked widespread backlash on social media. The incident led to debates about obscenity in comedy, and politicians from various parties demanded action against him.
Following the uproar, Allahbadia, along with Samay Raina and others involved, has been summoned by the National Commission for Women on February 17. Assam police have also filed a case against them.
In response to the criticism, Ranveer Allahbadia issued an apology, admitting his comment was inappropriate and unfunny. He posted a video on X (formerly Twitter), stating that comedy was not his strong suit and that he was sorry for his remarks.
Samay Raina also addressed the controversy, revealing that he had removed all India’s Got Latent videos from his YouTube channel. He expressed that the situation had become overwhelming for him and that his sole intent was to entertain and make people laugh. Raina assured that he would fully cooperate with authorities for a fair investigation.
