Chhaava has shattered records on its opening day, becoming Vicky Kaushal’s biggest career opener.

Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava has had an outstanding opening at the box office, despite receiving mixed reviews. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film set multiple records on its first day.

Chhaava became the highest opener of 2025 and surpassed Gully Boy’s record for the biggest Valentine’s Day collection by an Indian film. It also became Vicky Kaushal’s biggest career opener, earning Rs 31 crore (nett) across all languages on its first day, with a 35.17% occupancy in Hindi.

This performance beat Uri: The Surgical Strike’s previous record of Rs 8.20 crore and surpassed Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force opening of Rs 15.30 crore. Additionally, it broke Gully Boy’s Valentine’s Day record of Rs 19.40 crore.

Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Chhaava is based on the life of Maratha king Sambhaji, played by Vicky Kaushal. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta. It is adapted from the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant and features music by A.R. Rahman.
