Actress Jal Shah Announces Return to Films After Nearly Two Decades
Kathmandu – Formerly renowned actress Jal Shah has announced her return to the film industry within the next two years. Speaking at a press conference held at the Hilton Hotel on Sunday, she shared her plans for making a comeback.
“In the next two years, I will be back on the big screen,” she stated. “Until now, I had prioritized spending time with my family. I was fully dedicated to raising my daughter, Kalash. Now that she has grown up, I feel ready to return.”
Jal Shah, who has been residing in the United States for a long time, did not disclose details about the film or production team behind her comeback project. Her last appearance was in Krodh, which was released 19 years ago.
The press conference was primarily held to share information about a social initiative led by her daughter, Kalash. Through the Shiksha Foundation, Kalash has been actively distributing food, clothing, and educational materials to schools, including those in Chaurideurali, Kavre, and other regions.
When asked about her potential film debut, 16-year-old Kalash responded, “My priority right now is my studies. Once I complete my education, if I receive an offer for a film like my mother’s Je Bho Ramrai Bho, I will consider making my debut.”
Jal Shah is set to return to the U.S. on Monday after a three-week stay in Nepal.
During the event, various contributions were pledged in support of the Shiksha Foundation. Journalist Rishi Dhamala announced the establishment of the Prema Shah Literary Award, named in memory of Jal Shah’s late mother, which will annually honor a journalist with a cash prize of NPR 100,000. Additionally, Laaj Sharanam producer Naveen Shrestha pledged NPR 111,000 to the foundation.
Media personality Prakash Subedi made a surprising announcement, stating, “The day Kalash makes her debut as an actress, I will retire from film journalism.”
